We took a our first trip to Austria in 2025 and Salzl was the highlight. Out of the 30 or so wines tasted we struck gold twice. This was the best wine- pure gold and the highlight of the trip. This was a serious tasting, through the bumpy vineyards in the back of a trailer pulled by a tractor, with an Austrian hat and a Polish lady. Very Nais!

Pleasant herbal spice on the nose with some fresh green apples, hints of grapefruit and lime, subtle notes of red pepper. The ripe fruit spreads beautifully on the palate, underlaid with baked apple, giving extra sweetness, fresh salty minerality, dense, creamy and wonderfully balanced.

Illmitz is not only the home town of the Salzls, their vines also grow here in between the national park Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel – a world heritage region. It is an obligation for Christoph Salzl, a mission and an honour at the same time, not only to live in this region, but to wholeheartedly appreciate and protect this privilege. Three generations of Salzls work with a lot of experience, heart and soul to vinificate great wines with passion.
