From an unblended cask of 16 year old Port Ellen, distilled on the 6th August 1980 and bottled as part of the First Cask Series from Direct Wines Ltd who released some outstanding and rare bottles quarterly for a period in the early 2000’s.
This bottle was originally from a private collection and had been stored by the owner since purchase. It comes with its original booklet containing notes on its history.
Critic Reviews:
Port Ellen was closed in 1925 for remodernisation, but did not reopen until 1967. Just sixteen years passed before the distillery was again shut, and this time the closure seems permanent. All the more reason to savour the last few precious drops.
