Mont Gras Aura Carmenere Reserva, 2017
Introduced from France in the 1800’s, Carménère has developed a unique personality in the ¿terroir¿ of Chile. This variety was wiped out from Europe by Phyloxera (small aphids that feed on vine roots & leaves) and was rediscovered in Chile in 1994. Chile is today the only significant source of this uncommon varietal as an ungrafted genuine plant. MontGras is a specialist producer of Carménère with over 20 years experience, often resulting in numerous global wine awards. Intense ruby red colour with some purplish notes. On the nose it is clean and fresh with a vibrant core of blackberry, plums and spicebox. The palate is nicely balanced and deep with cherry and dark chocolate tones. Well structured & medium bodied ending with a long, complex finish.
