History: 11 generations of Roty’s have culminated in this cult winery
Another single vineyard but this is a monopole meaning no other producer has their vines here (extremely rare) great vintage. The whole production of the vineyard historically went to the church!
Domaine Joseph Roty has one of the largest cult followings of any small Burgundian grower, and has produced some of the region’s most exquisite wines for many years. Twelve generations on from 1710 the domaine is now run by Pierre-Jean, following the tragic passing of his brother Philippe. Philippe was a tremendous vigneron and had taken over the mantle of his celebrated father Joseph, instituting little changes that meant the domaine looked to the future with confidence; now it is up to Pierre-Jean to do the same, and he is doing so admirably.
The domaine follows organic and biodynamic principles although hasn’t sought certification.

Medium crimson purple. Very attractive on the nose, roses and strawberries, with elegance. Not the most concentrated but this is a graceful style, with a very good heart to the wine, and the barrel barely influencing the finish. Good acidity, an additional zest at the finish and the fruit carries on through. Very nice. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: November 2023.

Not a real monopole but a de facto one as the only other grower with a few rows of vines here blends them into his villages wine. Slightly paler in colour with a nose of tight stalky dark fruit, very restrained but with some distant creamed cherry notes. On the palate, dense dark fruits are spiced and rich yet racy and fresh at the same time, with nicely supple tannins behind the rich red cherry and black fruit with spice and black pepper on the juicy finish, the tannins only showing themselves right at the end. Deceptively approachable already. Drink 2025
