This Stellenbosch Chardonnay is dusty and nutty with smoky oak and a taut, mineral-edged palate. It’s hard to believe it’s not a £20 wine, but it is worth that and it’s hugely enjoyable.
On the bouquet the wine shows alluring aromas of white pear, Elderflower and subtle hints of toasted vanilla and white flowers. The palate
is fresh yet creamy with the ripe pear and citrus acidity following through. Well-integrated oak allows for a toasty and lingering finish.
Grapes were handpicked in the early morning of each of the 4 days of picking so as to capture the subtle primary flavours that the variety offers. Every batch from each of the morning picks as well as those of the individual parcels were kept separate in the cellar so as to aid quality selection when it came to assembling the final blend. The Chardonnay is always bottled in summer, after filtering.
Cream based foods, smoked chicken or duck, seared tuna with olive oil, lime juice and black pepper.
