The Corton Grand Cru from Domaine Tollot-Beaut opens in the glass with notes of dark wild berries, espresso and sweet spice. The flavours are concentrated on the palate, well-structured with firm tannins and racy acidity. A powerful wine which will continue to improve with age.

Domaine Tollot-Beaut, located in Chorey-Lès-Beaune, was started in 1880 by François Tollot. The fifth generation of the family, Nathalie Tollot and her two cousins, Olivier and Jean-Paul, now oversee the Domaine. Tollot-Beaut was among the first producers in the Côte d’Or to start bottling its wines at the Domaine, in 1921. They own a total of 24 hectares across four communes: ChoreyLès-Beaune, Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Beaune and Aloxe-Corton. Their wines range from Bourgogne through to Grand Cru.

The grapes come from the ‘Les Combes’ climat in the Corton Grand Cru vineyard. This walled site is located on the lower slopes of the Corton hill. The vines face south-east and are guyot trained. The vineyards are ploughed and the family practice la lutte raisonée.

The 2016 Corton Grand Cru, which comes from Les Combes, had a sultry bouquet of mulberry and blackberry, nicely defined but introspective at the moment. The palate is smooth and harmonious, sweet and ripe with a grainy texture and notes of blood orange complementing the red fruit toward the structured and persistence finish. This is very classy, voluminous and with very satisfying purity from start to finish. A splendid Corton from l’equipe Tollot-Beaut.
