Producer notes

After a triumphant start thanks to a warm spring and an exciting month of June, the growing season which was announced very promising proved to be delicate and complex. July was cold, below seasonal norms, and fresh nights added to the rainy days of August.  It is finally the beautiful month of September with dry weather, temperatures near 30°C and exceptional sunshine that saved the vintage; a true gift of nature, perfectly unexpected (as in 2008). This general beautiful weather with fresh nights, ideal scenario for the aromatic expression, also allowed the stop of all sanitary degradation in the affected parcels. Result: beautiful small bays, highly concentrated. It is a rare vintage with again a small harvest for us, but which could be a worthy successor to the great classic vintages. We already think of 2010 for the structure and 2001 for the freshness and brightness of the fruit. Finally the 2014 will look to itsself with a promising balance of sugar and acidity, which lets guess a beautiful aromatic complexity to come. To continue!

Critic Reviews:

Wine Enthusiast 91 points.

Low yields have produced a concentrated wine. The tannins are powerful and dense—a fine foil to the ripe juicy black-currant fruit. The impressive wine is going to take its time to be ready to drink with richness and tight structure. Drink from 2021.
