Painted Wolf Wines is a South African producer dedicated to crafting expressive wines while supporting African wild dog conservation.

A winery we are very interested in due to the positive impact on customers at our tastings and for the winery’s commitment to supporting the endangered African wild dogs- the rarest large mammal in South Africa. With only around 400 adult dogs (Painted Wolfs) remaining, the support from the sales of these wines contribute to the vital conservation of these stunning animals.

We were privileged to have founder winemaker Jeremy visit us in Spring 2025 for a talk and wine tasting with our customers. We also visited Jeremy at his base in South Africa in 2026 to gain more insight into his amazing wines and find out more about the wild dogs.

“I like to work in harmony with each batch of grapes which we harvest. There are no recipes for wine making at Painted Wolf. Each vineyard and vintage provides us with grapes which are slightly different. The taste, feel, size, colour and sugar levels of each unique parcel of grapes drives my wine making decisions. I like to use the natural yeast found on the skins of grapes as this helps in defining a sense of place for the wines, and I use wood in a restrained manner to avoid dominating the fruit. Mostly I look for balance and vivacity in my wine.”

An elegant wine, with an aroma of fresh bright peach, citrus, straw and vanilla. The wine has a creamy finessed texture, evident new wood aromas and a lovely long finish with nice fresh acid keeping it bouncy and vibrant.

These Chenin Blanc grapes were harvested from 20-year-old bush vines in the Paardeberg area of the Swartland, vines of a similar age in Agter Paarl, 43-year-old heritage vines from Wellington.
