The 2015 Pinot Noir comes from a cooler pocket within the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, matured in 21% new wood, the remainder second and third fill, whereby Kevin Grant matches cooperage with parcels. It has an earthy bouquet, very well defined with dark cherries, cranberry and a subtle iron-like content. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, edgy tannin, cranberry and raspberry fruit with a touch of spice, developing bay leaf and tea leaf scents on the finish. Kevin said he wanted to make a Pinot that asks questions rather than makes a statement and he has probably achieved that here…hasn’t he?
