Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is owned by the Richard family. The Château was built in the 18th century but historical winery records date as far back as 1560. The 92 ha property, divided into 57 plots, has been certified organic since 1998 and comprises plantings of all of the 13 grape varieties allowed in the production of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. La Nerthe is known for producing elegant and refined reds but is also one of the main producers of white wines in the area.
The Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages les Cassagnes grows in the Tavel area and is made with the same care and passion as its brothers from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It contains a large portion of Syrah (around 30%), which adds strength and aroma to the Grenache, and some Mourvedre is also used.
2019 is a great vintage for the southern Rhône, which this wine shows impressively with its depth and balance at a very high level. An opulent Rhône red wine as it is in the text book.
