Monsieur Bouldy, of Château Bellegrave fame in Pomerol has been looking after
Château Grand-Pey-Lescours since the late 1980s. This 25 hectare Grand Cru is just outside of St. Emilion proper. Situated on clay-limestone soils, it is planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc which are cultivated organically. If you are looking for the latest vintage of
Bordeaux, you will need to look elsewhere, as Jean-Marie Bouldy, offers very little wine en primeur, instead waiting until he believes the wines are ready to drink.
This is a perfect example of St Emilion, perfectly matured and ready to enjoy.

The wine shows the firm tannins of the vintage. They give a dry core that will probably remain. However, there is also a fine layer of fresh black-currant fruit that gives a fine lift to the wine at the end. It will be ready soon, drink from 2017. — Roger Voss
